Background

The South West Food Hub is working in partnership with the government’s Crown Commercial Service to deliver a new approach to public sector food procurement, known as the Future Food Framework.

The Future Food Framework is a dynamic approach to public sector food procurement that will help small and medium sized producers in the region to sell directly to public sector institutions. The new approach, delivered via an online platform, will give public sector buyers a much wider choice of options to source local fresh food whilst redirecting public sector food spend into the regional economy.

The new framework will have a greater focus on sustainability, seasonality, quality and welfare standards than has been previously seen in national food contracts.

The online platform

The platform is an online marketplace that will give producers and suppliers who meet its entry criteria the opportunity to market their products directly to the public sector marketplace, with flexibility to choose what they want to supply, how much, and when.

The technology development is underway and the platform is anticipated to launch in early 2022. In the meantime, the South West Food Hub is helping producers and suppliers to get ready by sharing information and holding events to tell you more about the new platform and how you can get ready to supply through it.
